My Most Favorite Breakfast at Toast Box

As we already knew and heard that a good breakfast simply can boost our mood at that day. For me a perfect breakfast that will boost my mood is come from some slices of fresh toasted bread, two half boiled eggs, and a cup of hot tea or coffee. Sadly, in my country I must prepare that kind of breakfast by myself, because there isn’t food stall open in the morning to serve bread for breakfast and also in my country is common to have rice dish for breakfast. Can you imagine it? Eating a plate of carbohydrate in the morning? Yeah, terribly shocking. And also the environment in my city is not convenient for us to walk in pedestrian and hunt food in the street.

Ok, let’s back to the main topic about my favorite breakfast. When I am in Singapore, one thing that I always love and can’t miss is breakfast time. One thing I love the most about Singapore is that there are many food stall open and serve breakfast. My favorite place to have breakfast is Toast Box. Me and my hubby always come here to get our morning boost. Toast Box serves three kind of breads: the traditional toast one, the thick toast, and the soft bun. And also we can choose the jam from various kind of jam. They also serve some main dish, such as: mee siam, nasi lemak, laksa, etc. I have tried some kind of bread and also the main dish, but I always back to the traditional toast one.

Traditional Toast Set

Traditional Toast Set

I call this one with ultimate hearty breakfast. This one set of breakfast will always be my most favorite breakfast all the time. I will never get bored to eat this breakfast every morning. Consist of fresh traditional toast with butter kaya, two half boiled eggs, and one cup of hot Teh-C, this can’t be more than a heavenly breakfast for me. Teh-C is a tea made with evaporated milk and sugar, which creating a nice taste combination between the nice fragrance of hot red tea and the evaporated milk. My hubby also like the coffee at Toast Box. The coffee they serve is a Hainan style coffee.

The half boiled eggs is a star too. First I eat it wrong by zipping the egg from the shell but immediately I learned from the local people how to eat it. Simply just crack the egg and pour it into the empty small plate, and then add white pepper and soy sauce as the way you like, and just eat it using small spoon just like eating soup. The half boiled eggs do taste heavenly for me.

The traditional toast has a perfect brown color in the outside, which is really appetizing. And the bread texture is just perfect, crisp in the outside and juicy, buttery creamy, and sweet in the inside. I always buy some can of Toast Box kaya jam to indulge myself at home with nice breakfast just like in Singapore. While I was writing this, I feel like really want to go back to Singapore again, and treating myself an ultimate hearty breakfast at Toast Box.

Myoung Ga, The Best Korean Restaurant in Surabaya.

At first I didn’t like Korean food. I thought that there was nothing special in Korean food, just food like: kimchi, spicy noodles, and barbecue things. But when my friend suggested to have lunch in Myoung Ga, she said that Myoung Ga serves the best Korean food in Surabaya, so I said yes. Since my first experience eat Korean food in Myoung Ga, now I become regular costumer in there, so does my hubby. Here, I will tell you why Korean food in Myoung Ga successfully make me an addict.

The Banchan

The Banchan

Myoung Ga serves various kind of Korean dish, and also they have many kind of meat option to grill. One thing I love in Myoung Ga is their Banchan. Banchan is small side dishes and have many kind of type. For detail you can read it at Wikipedia. The Banchan is for share and we can ask for more like in buffet. The Banchan in Myoung Ga is so delicious. I love the kimchi. The namul also great. Namul is steamed or marinated or stir fried vegetables. I can eat various kind of vegetables and also fermentation food in Banchan which is good for my diet program, that’s why I am in love with Korean food.

Ox Tongue BBQ

Ox Tongue BBQ

For the barbecue, I have tried some kind of meat part. The best so far I ever had is the ox tongue. I enjoy eating the meat with the vegetables and the dipping sauce. First I take one meat, wrap them in vegetable leaf, and then dip it in the seasoning sauce. The combination between barbecue meat, the fresh and crisp lettuce, and the seasoning sauce, really make an awesome Korean style sandwich.

Jajangmyeon

Jajangmyeon

I ordered Jajangmyeon noodles for my main course. Jajangmyeon is a Korean version noodles from Zha Jiang Mian (Northern Chinese noodles dish). The noodles is made from wheat and topped with a thick sauce which made from black soybean paste, and then served with diced meat and vegetables. Although the Jajangmyeon appearance looks quite disgusting but it tastes tasty. If you usually like to eat soybean and then you must be enjoy eating this noodles. It taste sweet but not sweet like sugar, and the wheat noodles texture is great.

Dolsot Bibimbap

Dolsot Bibimbap

My hubby always orders Dolsot Bibimbap for his main course when he eats in Myoung Ga. He has a crush with raw and runny egg yolk, that’s why he keeps choosing this again and again. The Dolsot Bibimbap is served in a hot stone bowl of warm rice and topped with namul, gochujang (chili pepper paste), sliced beef meat, mushrooms, and raw egg yolk.

After stirred together

After stirred together

The Bibimbap tastes terrific. The combination between namul, mushrooms, chili pepper taste, and not forget the sliced beef meat which add a sweet flavor balance. The rice texture is great. I love the crisp part rice. And the raw egg yolk is the most important thing in this dish, it makes the dish taste terrific. For the dessert, we got four slices of watermelon, two pieces of chocolate, and sujeonggwa. The bad thing about Myoung Ga is their service. The service is a little bit slow but I must patient because the food is so worth it to wait.

Paradise Dynasty, La Mian Lover Paradise

Another new franchise Chinese restaurant just opened in my city. After Crystal Jade restaurant, and now is Paradise Dynasty restaurant. First opened in Singapore, and then Jakarta, and last in my city in Surabaya. In my country, Paradise Dynasty restaurant is brought by the same group company as the owner of Bakerzin and Sushi Tei restaurant. First, I was skeptical with it’s taste. I always judge that the quality and the taste of the franchise restaurant in my city will not be the same as in Singapore. But my friend, who had try eat there, told me that the La Mian was really good. I can’t resist to try the La Mian since I saw the food photos that she showed me. So, I make a date with my friend to have dinner there. It was not practical to bring DSLR to casual dinner with my friend, so I decided to bring my pocket camera that night.

Paradise Dynasty

Paradise Dynasty

The Paradise Dynasty restaurant interior is luxury and also elegant, but yet still in simple way. I love the Chinese modern atmosphere. It is a nice place for enjoy lunch or dinner with friends and family. In weekdays I mean, I can not imagine if it is in weekend, must be hectic and chaos. The restaurant service in my city is always terrible when it is crowded. Paradise Dynasty serves many kind of La Mian, dumplings, and also has other typical Chinese dish. Me and my friend ordered one portion of the signature xiao long bao and chilled salted duck slices for share. For the main course, each of us ordered one bowl of La Mian. The herbal jelly dessert also tempting, but I was already full so I did not order it.

The 8 Signature Paradise Dynasty Xiao Long Bao

The 8 Signature Paradise Dynasty Xiao Long Bao

Here it come, the Eight Signature Paradise Dynasty Xiao Long Bao. The colorful looks really cute, doesn’t it? Each color of the xiao long bao has different flavor. I will explain the flavor of the Signature Xiao Long Bao one by one. Start with the white one, which is original flavor, and the green one is ginseng flavor, the light brown one is Foie Gras, the black one is Black Truffle, the yellow one is Cheesy, the orange one is Crab Roe, and last pink one is Szechuan.

Eight Signature Xiao Long Bao

Eight Signature Xiao Long Bao

One basket contain eight signature Xiao Long Bao, so each of us get four xiao long bao. I got to try the Ginseng flavor, Szechuan, Black truffle, and Foie Gras. My friend had ever eat the Szechuan, Black Truffle, and Foie Gras before, so she gave it to me to try it. First I ate the Ginseng one which tastes a little bitter, but just that’s it. The Black Truffle and the Foie Gras did not impress me at all. The Szechuan flavor was taste spicy, and become my favorite among the rest. The Xiao Long Bao texture itself was good, and the stock inside it was quite great. But overall, the Signature Xiao Long Bao is not that special. Next time, I just want the Szechuan flavor only.

Chilled Salted Duck Slices

Chilled Salted Duck Slices

We also ordered one portion of Chilled Salted Duck Slices. We quite shocked when it come. The duck portion was quite small, just like appetizer portion for us. The Chilled Salted Duck Slices was served in slices and immersed in chill clear stock. I quite like the duck, it tastes salty, and also tender because they cooked it right. So I clearly can taste the real taste of the duck meat. Really recommended to try for the duck lover.

La Mian with Sliced Pork in Signature Pork Bone Soup

La Mian with Sliced Pork in Signature Pork Bone Soup

I don’t know what’s wrong with the quality food serving in Paradise Dynasty in my city, I found my sliced pork was too overcooked. Of course, the sliced pork become dry and it was not tender at all. I look at the other photos reviewer in Jakarta and Singapore, their sliced pork look great. The broth which made from pork bone stock was awesome, and really an addictive. The broth is really rich, and really tasty. I could not stop eating the broth until the end. The lava egg was awesome too. The egg yolk was still runny, while the egg white still taste soft. The noodles was great too.

La Mian with Braised Pork Belly

La Mian with Braised Pork Belly

My friend ordered the La Mian with Braised Pork Belly. She gave me one of the pork belly for me to try it. Wow, the pork belly was juicy and tender, it was melting in my mouth. I regret that I did not ordered the La Mian with pork belly too. Sadly, the pork belly size was too small but overall the La Mian price is still reasonable and worth it. I definitely become regular costumer for their awesome La Mian broth.

Enjoying Umi Budo at Achi-Koko Izakaya in Tokyo

Achi-Koko Interior

Achi-Koko Interior

Umi-Budo is known as sea grapes or green caviar. It’s latin name is Caulerpa lentillifera and they are found in the warm seas in Okinawa. Umi-Budo is one of Okinawan specialty, that’s why it is kinda difficult to find Umi-Budo in Tokyo. I searched in the internet and found that I can find it in Okinawan diner place. There is one Izakaya named Achi-Koko, which located in Yurakucho near Hibiya Station. Achi-Koko is an Izakaya which served Okinawan dish and also served Yakitori like other Izakaya does. I decided to go there to eat Umi-Budo and also try Okinawan dish.

Umi-Budo

Umi-Budo

We ordered one portion of Umi-Budo for share. When the Umi-Budo came, I was so excited to try it. The Umi-Budo was served with sanbaizu (soy sauce, vinegar, mirin, and sugar). The Umi-Budo shape is amazing. It looks like combination shape between tiny grapes and caviar. And it taste salty like fresh seawater with seaweed flavor hint. The texture taste so amazing in my mouth. It was succulent and popping in my mouth. And it really make me and my hubby so addicted to eat it up. You do know the feeling when you were eating tasty snack. Yup, it just like that feeling when I was eating the Umi-Budo.

Okinawa Soba

Okinawa Soba

I ordered one bowl of Okinawa Soba for my main course. Okinawa Soba, which usually simply called soba in Okinawa, is really different from common soba in Japan which made from buckwheat, but this one is more like udon. The Okinawa Soba was served with some kamaboko (fish cake), three thick slices of stewed pork belly, and garnished with sliced scallion and pickled ginger. From the appearance the Okinawa Soba looks so tasty, especially the pork belly which looks so tempting. First, I taste the broth which I found it tasted so strange for me because it doesn’t taste like typical Japanese broth. The noodles was perfectly cooked and taste similar like udon. The stewed pork belly was the star of the dish, it was very tender and melted in my mouth.

Yakitori

Yakitori

My hubby ordered one portion of octopus rice for his main course, but I didn’t take the photo because it just looks like common rice dish. He said that the Octopus rice just taste nothing special. And he also ordered some Yakitori for share. The Yakitori smell so good. It was delicately cooked. Just look at the Yakitori color, which just nice. And the chicken meat was so tender and tasted so tasty. I really love Japanese skewer. Oh, I really can’t wait to back to Tokyo again and back to Achi-Koko to eat Umi-Budo and the Yakitori again.

Thye Hong Hokkien Mee at Wisma Atria Food Republic

When I was shopping at Orchard, I prefer to eat something quick and practical. Since I don’t like franchise fast food so I decided to eat at Food Republic at Wisma Atria. I won’t be surprised if food in food court will not be tasty, nevertheless I don’t want to waste my time. I just want to fill my stomach as quick as possible and then continue shopping again. When I was wandering around looking for food at Food Republic at Wisma Atria, I saw this Thye Hong Hokkien Mee stall. From the picture in their food stall, the Hokkien Mee looks very appetizing. I always in the mood for eating noodles, so I decided to try it.

Thye Hong Hokkien Mee

Thye Hong Hokkien Mee

I ordered the smallest portion which cost me 4 SGD. They have bigger portion for 6 SGD and 8 SGD. Hokkien Mee, which also popular as Hokkien Prawn Noodles, is a stir fried dish of egg noodles and thick rice noodles in Hokkien style fragrant stock. The fragrant stock is made from pork and prawn. Thye Hyong Hokkien Mee was served in an opeh leaf (which become the signature of Thye Hong), two prawns, sambal chilli, and a lime. When I was tasting the noodles, I was surprised by the taste. The noodles was perfectly cooked, great texture noodles, and I really love the fragrant stock flavor which was so tasty. The fragrant stock just awesome. The sambal chilli also great. It did give spicy taste but not so spicy, it just balanced with a nice sourness. The lime gave fresh scent taste to the noodles. Since then, I always back to eat Thye Hong Hokkien Mee when I was in Orchard. The Thye Hong Hokkien Mee is noodles dish too die for.

Roasted Chicken Porridge

Roasted Chicken Porridge

This is just a leisure photo of my sister lunch meal. She don’t know the food stall name, and I am not surprised because she always doesn’t pay attention to the food stall name and even the food name in complete. She just choose the food because she wanted to eat porridge. She said the porridge taste quite delicious.

Tau Suan

Tau Suan

I also ordered one portion of Tau Suan for share with my sister. Tau suan is mung beans in jelly, served in hot with dough crullers. I was in the mood for hot dessert to close the lunch, sadly my sister didn’t interest to eat hot dessert so I must eat up the Tau suan by myself. I quite like the Tau Suan. It tasted warm in my throat, a little bit sweet, and the mung beans jelly texture just right.

Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre and Market

One thing I love about Singapore is their hawker food centre which is so organized, very clean, and comfortable. So I can enjoy their tasty local street food in one place. Tiong Bahru Market is one of the most popular food centre in Singapore. They have some food stalls which is famous for its special dish. Although Tiong Bahru Market is located quite far from the MRT Station, but I don’t mind to walk to get tasty food.

Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle

Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle

At my first visit to Tiong Bahru, I wanted to try the famous Lor Mee but sadly it already sold out. Fortunately, the Min Nan Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles stall which also famous still open, so I decided to try it. The uncle who cooks the noodles, was very kind and friendly. He explained patiently and asked how do I prefer my noodles to be served, dry or soup. Of course I choose the dry one. The Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles was served with one big pork ribs, three big prawns, and one bowl of soup. The Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles appearance did look very tasty.

Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle

Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle

First, I tried the soup which was so tasty. They use prawn stock for the broth. I like the prawn stock flavor so much. And the pork ribs was very tender and tasty too. So tender so I can just bite it to shred the meat. The noodles has nice texture and it was so delicious. I think only in Singapore I can get one portion of delicious noodles with three big prawns and great tender pork ribs only for SGD 4.00. It is such a great value.

Char Kway Teow

Char Kway Teow

My hubby also want to eat Lor Mee, but because it already sold out so he looked around the food centre and finally he decided to eat Char Kway Teow. The food stall name is Tiong Bahru Char Kway Teow, which recently I just knew that it is popular too among the local as a 1960s Char Kway Teow. The former cooks is an old man around 80′s I guess, but since he is too old so now his son is taking the job and he just help taking the food order. The Char Kway Teow appearance just looks amazing in shiny dark brown color and smells fantastic too. No wonder the taste was so delicious. The Char Kway Teow secret is the pork lard they used which clearly I can taste it. Definitely this is the best Char Kway Teow I ever ate, because Char Kway Teow I ever had in my city just taste so horrible which just taste likes plain fried kway teow.

Lor Mee (Left). Shark's Meat Fritters (Right).

Lor Mee (Left). Shark's Meat Fritters (Right).

At my second visit to Tiong Bahru, finally I got chance to try eat the Lor Mee. Lor Mee is a Chinese inspired noodles cooked in a thick starchy gravy. The Lor Mee stall name is Lor Mee 187. The cooks is a young man who just start selling Lor Mee around 7 years and start getting popular since then. Of course which made his Lor Mee very popular is the shark meat fritters he used. The good news here is by using the whole shark meat, it reduces the finless shark body which usually wasted in the ocean after the hunter taking his fin. The shark meat fritters just taste like other fish fritters, not so that special I think. But the fritters texture was very crunchy, crispy, and soft fish meat in the inside. The gravy was quite tasty too, it tasted sweet, and the gravy thickness just great. I love the combination between the sweet taste from the gravy and the shark meat fritters. I hope soon I can come back to Singapore and go to Tiong Bahru Market again to try the other popular tasty dish.

Komagata Dojo, Two Centuries Dojo Restaurant at Tokyo

First I knew about Komagata Dojo restaurant from a fashion magazine in travel page about Tokyo, which Komagata Dojo name is listed as a must visit restaurant and famous for Dojo dish. I was so interested about it, and then I did some research in the internet. I found that Komagata Dojo is a long established restaurant dating back since 1801 and specializes in serving river fish called Dojo (aka Dozeu, Japanese Loach). Komagata Dojo restaurant is located near Sensoji Temple in Asakusa area. I decided to put in Komagata Dojo name in my itinerary in Tokyo.

Komagata Dojo Interior

Komagata Dojo Interior

I knew that it will be long queuing in weekend, so I planned to visit Komagata Dojo in weekdays. After I visited Sensoji Temple in the morning, I walked toward Komagata Dojo restaurant to have lunch. It was very easy to find the restaurant. The restaurant map in the internet describe it very clearly. Komagata Dojo restaurant exterior is so typical of old Japanese restaurant which I usually see in Kyoto. The interior as seen in the photo above, they still use low wood plank table in the floor and thin cushion to sit, some old picture frames, and a lot of Japanese calligraphy poster decorated the wall. I really can feel the oldie Japanese restaurant atmosphere in there.

Dozeu Nabe

Dozeu Nabe

Komagata Dojo restaurant serves various kind of Dojo dish, but the most popular one is Dojo Nabe. Surprisingly, they have English menu, so we easily could order by pointing the menu. We decided to order one portion of Dojo nabe, one Kabayaki (Grilled Dojo), one Degaku, and also white rice for the carbo supply. Not to ask, the server was so attentive and the service was so fast tough. We didn’t need to wait too long to get our food arrived, very typical of Japanese service.

The Loach Fish (Left). Green Onions, and the Seasonning (Right).

The Loach Fish (Left). Green Onions, and the Seasonning (Right).

Since it was a traditional restaurant, so it does the process. Komagata Dojo still uses charcoal to heat the nabe. The Dojo Nabe itself is made from Loach fish which first was put living in alcohol, after the fish got calm down, they put on steel pot, and then simmer it. The Dojo Nabe appearance looks very appetizing with a lot of green onions on top. You can add green onions as many as you like, and also add some Japanese seasoning such as red peppers or aromatic spices (Sichimi Togarashi) to season the nabe. The Dojo fish was amazing. I really really love it. I can not describe the taste in detail, but it taste very “umami” (Japanese word to express complex taste of delicious). One portion of this fish really was not enough for us, we were still craving for more when we finished it up.

Kabayaki (Grilled Dojo)

Kabayaki (Grilled Dojo)

The second course was Kabayaki. Kabayaki is a grilled dojo dish. There are only four pieces of grilled dojo in the photo above. My hubby already took one piece before I took the picture of them. The grilled dojo appearance just looks like grilled unagi (eel). In my taste buds, they also taste similar. If the grilled version compare to the nabe version, definitely the nabe version is far taste better than the grilled version. The nabe version really bring out the real taste of dojo fish while the grilled version is just taste like common sweet grilled fish.

Degaku

Degaku

This is Degaku. The English name is devil’s tongue with miso. The Degaku was served in two skewers, one is tofu and the other one is Konyaku. It taste quite nice. The miso paste gave a little sweet flavor, which was quite refreshing meal after ate the Dojo Nabe and Kabayaki. And one more thing, the white rice was magnificent. It was perfectly cooked and the texture was so fluffy. When I was eating the Dojo Nabe and the white rice, it was such a paradise feeling. Definitely I recommend Komagata Dojo for a must visit restaurant in Tokyo. I would absolutely back to Komagata restaurant again to eat their superb umami Dojo Nabe. And next time, I will eat one portion of Dojo Nabe by myself.

Afternoon Tea at L’Espace cafe by Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

That day was a shopping day in Siam Paragon mall, so me and my hubby were wandering around inside the mall. Suddenly, my hubby suggest to find a cafe to sit down, relaxing our feet, and enjoy some afternoon snack and tea. By that reason, in real my hubby just want to sit, drink tea, and enjoy reading his book, which he just bought. So I asked him to choose the cafe, and finally we ended at L’Espace cafe by Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Although the cafe looks quite cool and relaxing, but we don’t like the atmosphere where there are so many people passing by and sometimes they peek at us, like we are some object to be seen in the middle of the mall.

The Tea Tier Tray

The Tea Tier Tray

We ordered a set of afternoon tea to share, because I didn’t want feel to full, so did my hubby. Beside the afternoon tea set, L’Espace also served various kind of dish and drinks. The service was not so special. The servers were polite but they were not pleasant and warm. I gave them bellow average for hospitality standard, as we remembered that L’Espace is managed by Mandarin Oriental. Finally the tea tray coming, they served and arranged it in a three-tiered tray.

The Top Tier

The Top Tier

The three-tiered tray looks amazing. I couldn’t wait to try them all. It was my first time experience to enjoy the classic afternoon tea in a three tiered tray. The top tier tray was filled with some sandwiches and a croissant. The sandwiches was served with various kind of bread and topping. My favorite was the brown one with smoked salmon, and the orange one with prawn. The others just not remarkable.

The Bottom Tier

The Bottom Tier

The second tray just filled with two kinds of preserves, and clotted cream. The bottom tray was filled with two scones, and some sweet cakes. The scone was taste quite good, although it rather mild and I could not smell the lovely scent of fresh baked cake. I was quite enjoying eat it up with the two kinds of preserves and the clotted cream. It was my first time experience to eat scone so I don’t have comparison. But I think it was quite good. The other sweet cakes just taste common and not remarkable too.

The Tea

The Tea

L’Espace cafe uses Mariage Freres for the tea. It is a famous tea brand from Paris. The tea was served in a pot with a warmer candle below to keep the tea pot warm. I forgot the name of the tea flavor I choose, but the tea scent was fresh and so fragrance. We were surprised because they use tea bag for the tea. I was quite disappointed. Why does Mandarin Oriental cafe use tea bag? It just looks like inattentive cafe. Overall, it was a nice experience to enjoy afternoon tea complete with three-tiered tray, but I prefer to try the other place to enjoy my next afternoon tea.

Prachak, a Historic Roasted Duck Restaurant at Bangkok

Prachak Restaurant Logo

Prachak Restaurant Logo

When I was searching for delicious duck noodles in Bangkok, Prachak restaurant name came out. Prachak was considered one of the best restaurant which specializes in Roasted Duck and Noodles. After I did some research in the internet, I found that Prachak restaurant is so popular among the local people too. It is a Thai-Chinese restaurant which have a long history since 1909. I was getting more excited to try because of that long history they had. The reviewers in some blog also said that their egg noodles taste excellent.

Prachak Restaurant Interior

Prachak Restaurant Interior

First, it is quite difficult to spot Prachak restaurant in the middle of chaotic and buzzing Bangrat market area, and of course in the middle of hot and humid weather which make my head easily dizzy. Thanks to their restaurant web and map location which was so helpful. When we arrived, the first floor was full of local people enjoying their lunch, and then we got table in the second floor which was so quiet, only two tables occupied including us. The Prachak restaurant decor is very simple, and very typical decor just likes old Chinese restaurant in my city. Fortunately, the restaurant has air con inside. The server gave us English menu book, which is so helpful because there are food photos so we can ordered by pointing the picture to avoid miss communication.

A Half of Roasted Duck

A Half of Roasted Duck

When we were browsing the menu, we was shocked with the food price. Wow, their food price is so cheap. For a whole roasted duck only cost you for 400 bath (almost 13 USD), and the egg noodles with roasted duck cost only 45 bath (around 1.5 USD). Amazingly cheap, while in my country a bowl of noodles with roasted duck will cost you around 90 bath (3 USD), two times more expensive. Prachak restaurant has various kind of dish beside the roasted duck, like: pork dishes, wonton, dim sum, noodles, various kind of rice dishes, soup, stir fried dishes, and vegetables dishes. Finally, we decided to order a half roasted duck for share, and two bowls of egg noodles with roasted duck.

The Duck Meat Texture

The Duck Meat Texture

When the Roasted Duck arrived, first thing to do was take a few shots before my hubby eat it. The Roasted Duck appearance looks quite messy, but I thought the messy looks more like a homey Chinese dish, with a melamine plate and the Chinese pattern on it. The Roasted Duck was served with brown aromatic broth and some sliced of cucumbers. Although the duck skin was not crispy, but it has soft texture, so when I ate the whole slice, the skin itself give a nice sweet soft texture. The duck meat texture was very tender, juicy, moist, and mouthwatering. The brown broth tastes sweet and fresh, really well balance flavor in my taste buds, the broth make the duck taste awesome. Did not take a long time for us to eat up the duck.

Egg Noodles with Roasted Duck

Egg Noodles with Roasted Duck

While we were eating up the duck, we were also eating the noodles. The egg noodles itself taste so tasty and slurpy in my mouth. Just look at the noodles color and texture, I already predict that it will taste so delicious, and my predict was right. The noodles have a very nice yellow color, which is so appetizing, firm texture, and it was perfectly cooked. Plus, Prachak gave a generous portion of sliced Roasted duck for 45 bath price noodles. Overall, I was so satisfied with my lunch at Prachak, and I definitely will back there again when I visit Bangkok. And just for information, Prachak is located near BTS Saphan Taksin. For more detailed, just visit Prachak website.

Aan Ping Lao, Delicious and Authentic Ujung Pandang Noodles

The Owner and also the Cooks

The Owner and also the Cooks

Ujung Pandang Noodles has been become one of my favorite noodles since I was a child. Also called as Pangsit Mie UP (Ujung Pandang) in Indonesia. There are many Pangsit Mie UP depot around Indonesia. Here, I will share one of my favorite Pangsit Mie UP Depot in my city. The depot name is Aan Ping Lao, located in West Surabaya area. The Aan Ping Lao Depot is original branch depot from Makassar. I just discovered it a few days ago, and immediately become one of my hot spot noodles depot. The owner also one who cooks originally from Makassar (the capital city of South Sulawesi). No wonder why their dish have authentic taste.

Special Pangsit Mie Ujung Pandang

Special Pangsit Mie Ujung Pandang

I ordered a bowl of Special Pangsit Mie Ujung Pandang in small size. We can choose the portion size as we like. There are small size, large size, and jumbo size. The Noodles was served with char siu, sliced chicken, tore pork, a deep fried wanton, and a bowl of broth with a wanton inside it. Tore pork is salted dry roast pork, which is make it special because I only find it in Aan Ping Lao depot.

Ujung Pandang Noodles from Other Angles

Ujung Pandang Noodles from Other Angles

When the noodles arrived, the aroma was so appetizing. It’s so typical aroma of noodles which use pork oil and pork stock. That’s why I am so in love with Ujung Pandang Noodles. Aan Ping Lao Depot have successfully served authentic and tasty Ujung Pandang noodles. I love their big and rounded noodles, even tough the noodles texture is not al dente enough for me but overall it was quite nice, and also it’s unique taste which come from the pork stock and oil. It’s such an amazing taste in my taste buds. Not forget that they give generous portion of char siu and tore pork. The char siu tastes sweet, it was well caramelised and also well cut. The tore pork tastes salty, just likes salted dry roast pork should be.

Aan Ping Lao Depot also have another signature Ujung Pandang dish, that is porridge with raw egg. We can choose between chicken or pork porridge. The portion also come in three kind of size, and we can also have extra raw egg yolk for egg lover. My hubby ordered this Chicken Porridge with extra two egg yolks, which was served with chicken meat sliced, cahkue, and tongcai (salted cabbage). The egg yolk is raw, which make the porridge tastes superb tasty. The porridge texture is kind of thick. When the raw egg yolk blended well with the porridge, it created a nice soft yellow color which was so hearty looks and extremely delicious. Of course, I definitely will back again at their depot as soon as possible to eat their delicious noodles and porridge.
